That said, I thought I remembered him mentioning it previously, so digging through my emails I found this: Ian wrote: Also, and quite unexpectedly, though all praise to my agent who is brilliant, earlier this year Simon & Schuster bought back the rights to my Human Rites trilogy (which had gone out of print a couple of years ago) and they’re republishing it in a nice trade paperback edition, starting with The Last Albatross on the first of October. I set out to make a few minor changes to update it, and ended up doing about 5,000 changes, large and small, so it definitely counts as a second edition.

I'm already waiting on an e-mail back from Ian, actually, but thanks for the effort. ;p
Edit: Ah, thank you. Does seem like a fair few edits... I wonder if the plot changed at all. >_>
Actually, I believe I sent the e-mail to his BigPond account, which I don't know if he checks all that often, as he has the ozemail one listed in the front cover of his books... Maybe I should resend it. :p

I think he uses the BigPond one more often actually. Probably doesn't get as much spam or something.

I'm afraid I neglected to ask about the changes to the novel in the e-mail, as I sent it before I read this thread. Sorry. :/
You'll have to send him an e-mail yourself, or you can wait until the next time I send him one -- though I generally send them to him with intervals of a few months.
